W. KENNEDY PIPING FESTIVAL, ARMAGH, IRLANDA 15 – 18 NOV. 2018 (Seconda parte)

Programma ricchissimo di avvenimenti che copre completamente le quattro giornate coinvolgendo tutti gli spazi disponibili di Armagh. A parte le imperdibili sessions che si terranno durante il festival al Turner’s Bar, Embers Restaurant, Red’s Ned, The Hole in the Wall ed al Charlemont Arms Hotel vi segnalo caldamente l’inaugurazione del festival, giovedì alle 18:00 nella consueta sede del vittoriano Primate’s Palace (vi suoneranno Luigi Lai, Anxo Lorenzo e Dàimh), “A world of piping” suddiviso in quattro parti con suonatori da Bulgaria, Scozia, Irlanda, Svezia, Asturie, Northumberlan e Sardegna che si terranno nella sede del’Armagh Piper Club, nella Biblioteca Robinson, nella Chiesa Presbiteriana ed al Museo della Contea ma soprattutto l’evento che celebrerà i venticinque anni di questo straordinario appuntamento con la musica tradizionale, ovvero il concerto di venerdì all’Auditorium del Market Place Theatre. Sul palco saliranno musicisti del calibro di Luigi Lai, Jarlath Henderson, Ivan Georgiev, Cillian Vallely, Paddy Keenan, John McSherry solo per citarne alcuni, un’apoteosi delle cornamuse e della musica popolare al suo massimo livello, ci sarà il tempo anche per un ricordo di Liam O’Flynn che due anni fa suonò uno strepitoso set nella Cattedrale di Armagh. L’altro concerto, quello di sabato 17 nello stesso auditorium, coinvolgerà tra gli altri nientemeno che i Lunasa, il leggendario duo Paddy Glackin – Paddy Keenan e Barry & Laura Kerr che presenteranno il loro bellissimo quanto nuovo CD.
Come gli appassionati avranno notato, “vecchi leoni” come Paddy Keenan suoneranno con musicisti più giovani nello spirito vero della musica popolare e questi ultimi sapranno certamente carpire qualche segreto dagli “anziani”.
Inoltre workshop e conferenze come quella di venerdì pomeriggio presso la sede del Club che riguarda la storia della cornamusa nell’area di Cork tra Ottocento e Novecento, e concerti per e di giovanissimi musicisti della scuola del Club, “I’m a little boat” e le “Junior singing session”. Domenica 18 il festival chiude i battenti, per quest’anno naturalmente, e saremo là per poi raccontarvi gli eventi e l’atmosfera che si respira nella cittadina irlandese durante questo importante evento che mi auguro venga supportato sempre più da sponsor privati ed istituzioni pubbliche; per il bene degli irlandesi in primis ma anche per noi amanti delle tradizioni popolari, e dell’Irlanda of course.
